The NDF liaises with registered charities working with those in genuinely needy circumstances.
When a private practice volunteers for a dental rescue day the NDF contacts suitable charities in that locality and invites them to identify patients in need of dental intervention. The NDF has guidelines to identify who is eligible for the program and works with case workers to ensure those in greatest need are prioritised.
The State Coordinator will assess patient referrals, collect medical histories for those selected and arrange suitable appointments. They arrange the appointment book and ensure that all the relevant paperwork is completed prior to the appointment.
On the day, the volunteering team provides any dental treatment required and, if necessary, may make further appointments to continue treatment for more complex needs.
