Dental Rescue Day

What is a Dental Rescue Day

A Dental Rescue Day (DRD) is a means of delivering treatment to a group of patients who are disadvantaged and in need of dental intervention, on a single day and in a single location.

When a private practice volunteers for a DRD, we contact suitable charities in the area and invite them to identify patients in need of dental intervention. The NDF has guidelines to identify who is eligible for the program and works with case workers to ensure those in greatest need are prioritised.

The State Coordinator will assess patient referrals, collect medical histories for those selected and arrange suitable appointments directly with the dental practice. They arrange the appointment book and ensure that all the relevant paperwork is completed prior to the appointment.

On the day, the volunteering team provides any dental treatment required and, if necessary, may make further appointments to continue treatment for more complex needs.
